Last night at Bethesda’s E3 2017 showcase, we saw a couple new titles as well as updates for numerous existing ones. One such update came in the way of some off-screen gameplay footage for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim running on Nintendo Switch. In a twist few, I could imagine, saw coming, Bethesda revealed that your Breath of the Wild amiibo (at least the Link Archer amiibo) will work in game!
In the trailer below, you’ll see that that scanning your Breath of the Wild amiibo will unlock Link’s outfit from the game, as well as the Master Sword and a Hylian shield (along with an Epona mount, perhaps?). We were all waiting to see what would make this version of Skyrim—a soon-to-be six-year-old game—a different experience, and this is it. For this reason alone, I shall purchase Skyrim a fourth time.
The trailer also showcased motion controls using the Switch’s Joy-Cons, and this is actually one of the few times I welcome motion-controlled combat (I wasn’t sold on Skyward Sword‘s motion controls, but I did enjoy Red Steel). Particularly of interest to me would be seeing how accurate I can be with a bow, but that’ll have to wait until this Fall.
