The moment we’ve been eagerly awaiting is finally upon us! Nintendo has not only announced that the long-rumored SNES Classic will hit store shelves on September 29, 2017 for $79.99 USD, but also that the never-before-released Star Fox 2 would be included in its roster of 21 classic SNES games.
The full list of games includes:

- Donkey Kong Country
- EarthBound
- Final Fantasy III
- F-ZERO
- Kirby Super Star
- Kirby’s Dream Course
- The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
- Mega Man X
- Secret of Mana
- Star Fox
- Star Fox 2
- Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
- Super Castlevania IV
- Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts
- Super Mario Kart
- Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
- Super Mario World
- Super Metroid
- Super Punch-Out!!
- Yoshi’s Island
Also of note is that this iteration of Nintendo’s Classic series of mini retro consoles comes with two SNES controllers, whereas the NES Classic came with only one NES controller. This makes multiplayer in games like Super Mario Kart or Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting an instant reality.
Despite the full game list being shorter than that of the NES Classic (which had 30 games total), I think the SNES games on offer here are of far better quality. The asking price of $79.99 USD is rather steep in comparison to the $59.99 asking price for the NES Classic (and the $35 price for a Raspberry Pi, which could emulate all these games, plus others, but without the slick look and feel of the hardware from the Classic line), but I’m sure people will be clamoring for this just as much as (if not more than) the NES Classic. We’ll just have to wait and see if Nintendo has remedied their stock situation from last time.
As of now, the official page for the SNES Classic lists retailer info as “coming soon.” The item will be shipping through the end of 2017.
