Another game slashes its way to Switch. Phantom Trigger, the latest game from indie developer and publisher tinyBuild, will be launching on Steam and Nintendo Switch on August 10. Described as a “hardcore neon slasher with RPG elements,” Phantom Trigger follows the story of Stan, a white-collar, middle-class worker whose life is upended by a “mysterious event.”
The game features a pixel-art graphic style and hack-n-slash gameplay which utilizes arcane hexes, spells, and traps, which can be combined for devastating combos. Phantom Trigger also boasts five different worlds to explore, a branching story with four alternate endings, and local cooperative play.
In a statement via email, tinyBuild CEO Alex Nichiporchik briefly discussed the game’s challenging development cycle:
To say that the development of the game was difficult is an understatement. Aside from a much bigger scope than the first game, war broke out in the [Ukraine/Russia] region. Victor, the game’s programmer, moved his family to East Ukraine mid-development. While Denis, the artist, moved to Saint Petersburg. I’ve been working with them and supporting through the whole process, acting as a producer.
Phantom Trigger releases on Steam and the Nintendo Switch eShop on August 10 for $14.99 MSRP. Be sure to check out the pre-launch trailer below.
