Ready for a party brawler on Switch? If so, your wishes may be granted. Developer Angry Mob Games has announced that their game, Brawlout, is set to come to Nintendo Switch later this year (as well as PS4 and Xbox One at a later date). The game is currently on Steam Early Access.
For the uninitiated, Brawlout is a self-described “party fighting game,” not unlike Super Smash Bros. The game boasts many features, including fluid, streamlined combat, and a feature called Rage Meter, among others. Some of the game’s online features include (from the game’s website):
- A robust Ranked match system, complete with regional leaderboards
- 1v1 casual matches for low-stress competition
- 2-4 player private lobbies where players can practice or mess about to their heart’s content
- The Brawlout Network where players can check their fight stats, match history and replays
- Brawlout TV which allows for live spectating and watching of specific player replays
- Weekly competitive tournaments for those looking to prove their Brawlout skills
The game clearly and unabashedly is taking many cues from Super Smash Bros., but I think there may just be enough here to make it unique and stand out from its inspiration. The character designs seem slightly outlandish, the stage designs look gorgeous, and the combat looks fluid in a way I’m not even sure Smash could accomplish, and I feel this may be what sets Brawlout apart. This could be just what fans need to tide over until the inevitable Smash Bros. Switch announcement.
The developer made the Switch announcement alongside a new character reveal, the protagonist from Hyper Light Drifter, which you can check out in the video below.
