Whoa, really? The final Splatfest from the original Splatoon, which pitted Squid Sisters Callie and Marie against one another, has apparently influenced the story, at least in part, of the upcoming Splatoon 2. First announced by the Splatoon Japanese Twitter account, saying “top secret documents” had been obtained, the official Splatoon website added a new page, called “Squid Sister Stories.”

So far, Nintendo has only released an Introduction and Prologue to the Squid Sister Stories, but the fact Nintendo has allowed a multiplayer event to dictate, at least partially, the story of the next game is refreshingly modern. While we don’t yet know what these events may have triggered, it’ll certainly be interesting to see how it all unfolds in future updates.
