NES Classic Will Return in 2018

Surprise! Nintendo has announced that, due to “unbridled enthusiasm,” the NES Classic Edition will make a return in summer 2018. Additionally, the SNES Classic Edition, which was previously reported to have been only shipping through the end of 2017, will now be shipping units into 2018, and Nintendo claims that more units will ship on its September 29 launch date.

Nintendo states that “more information about the timing of the return of NES Classic Edition will be announced in the future.”

While I’m grateful to see the NES Classic being returned to store shelves (if they ever make it to shelves), I’m rather surprised by the move. Nintendo had previously stated that the NES Classic Edition was “not intended to be an ongoing, long-term product,” but apparently Nintendo has heard its fans’ disdain loud and clear.
