The NES Classic Edition Is Being Discontinued in North America

That seems to be a wrap, folks. According to Nintendo representative in a statement to IGN, the NES Classic Edition is being discontinued in North America.

Here is the full statement:

“Throughout April, NOA territories will receive the last shipments of Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition systems for this year. We encourage anyone interested in obtaining this system to check with retail outlets regarding availability. We understand that it has been difficult for many consumers to find a system, and for that we apologize. We have paid close attention to consumer feedback, and we greatly appreciate the incredible level of consumer interest and support for this product.”

The Nintendo representative went on to say, “NES Classic Edition wasn’t intended to be an ongoing, long-term product. However, due to high demand, we did add extra shipments to our original plans.” Nintendo of America declined to confirm whether or not this means the NES Classic/Famicom Mini would be discontinued worldwide.

What do you think of this announcement? Do you think Nintendo should have been clearer in its initial messaging that the NES Classic Edition would not be a product available in the long term? Let us know what you think by leaving a reply!
