‘NBA 2K18’ Special Editions Are Coming to Nintendo Switch, Feature Shaquille O’Neal

Swish! According to an announcement video from NBA 2K, two special editions of NBA 2K18, along with the base game, are coming to Nintendo Switch, alongside Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The special editions are titled NBA 2K18 Legend Edition and NBA 2K18 Legend Edition Gold, and will be launching on September 15, 2017, along with a non-special edition titled NBA 2K18 Early Tip-Off Edition.

The NBA 2K18 standard edition will run for $59.99 USD and will net you (pun intended) the following:

  • 5,000 VC
  • 10 Weekly MyTeam Packs (with Team 2K card)
  • MyPlayer Apparel

The NBA 2K18 Legend Edition will run for $99.99 USD and include the following:

  • 100,000 VC
  • 20 Weekly MyTeam Packs (with guaranteed Shaq and Team 2K cards)
  • Shaq Attaq Shoes
  • Shaq jerseys + apparel
  • Championship ring
  • Shaq MyTeam stickers
  • 5 Shaq trading cards
  • Shaq poster

The NBA 2K18 Legend Edition Gold will run for $149.99 USD and include the following:

  • All Legend Edition content
  • Additional 150,000 VC (250,000 total)
  • 20 additional weekly MyTeam Packs (40 total with guaranteed Shaq and Team 2K cards)
  • Shaq’s jersey collection
  • 5 additional Shaq trading cards
  • Lenticular cover

Both special editions come with a hefty price tag, but with a ton of in-game and physical goodies as well. I’m not a huge sports game fan, but the memorabilia included does seem intriguing.

One bit of confusion to note is that, according to Nintendo Life, the special editions will launch on September 15 with the standard edition launching on September 19—however, according to retail listings, all editions (including the Early Tip-Off Edition) are listed to launch on September 19, and these listings don’t include the standard edition. We’ve reached out to 2K Games and will update this article if and when we receive clarification.

Something worth noting here is that the Nintendo Switch is being included in these special edition promotions, whereas the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are not—despite the Switch version being a port of those last-gen titles. Either way, it’s good press for Nintendo, so hopefully this may help pave the way for future third-party support on Switch.
