‘Kirby’ Series Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary

Grab your party favors! Today (or technically tomorrow, as of this writing), the Kirby series celebrates its 25th anniversary. The @Kirby25thJP Twitter account posted a message with the hashtag “#Happy25thBirthdayKirby” in recognition.

The titular character first graced us with its existence in Kirby’s Dream Land on the Game Boy on April 27, 1992 in Japan, and was originally created by HAL Laboratory and Masahiro Sakurai, of now-Super Smash Bros. fame. Since then, Kirby has appeared in dozens of main-series games and spinoffs, including Kirby’s Adventure, Kirby’s Avalanche, and Kirby Air Ride, among many others. Kirby has also been a main fixture of the Super Smash Bros. roster since the first installment.

Most recently, during the latest Nintendo Direct, three new Kirby games were announced for Nintendo 3DS: the eShop-exclusive Team Kirby Clash Deluxe—which is out now—and two other upcoming games, Kirby’s Blowout Blast and one yet-to-be-announced Kirby title.

Are you excited for the Kirby series’ 25th anniversary? Will you be picking up any of the celebratory games launching this year? Let us know by leaving a reply!
